NVIDIA’s RTX 50-Series (Blackwell)

NVIDIA’s current generation runs from the RTX 5060 up to the RTX 5090, with DLSS 4 and multi-frame generation as the headline software feature — it can insert multiple AI-generated frames between rendered ones, which makes a real difference in supported titles. The RTX 5090 sits at the very top of the market: exceptional performance, exceptional price, and honestly more card than most people need. For most gamers, the RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti sit in the genuinely useful mid-to-high range.

AMD’s RX 9000-Series (RDNA 4)

AMD’s current flagship, the RX 9070 XT, consistently gets praised for value — strong performance without flagship NVIDIA pricing. Further down the range, the RX 9060 XT (16GB version specifically) is a standout at the budget end — genuinely current-generation performance without a current-generation price tag.

So, NVIDIA or AMD?

There’s no universal right answer, but a fair rule of thumb: if ray tracing, DLSS, streaming, or professional creative software support matters to you, NVIDIA’s ecosystem is the stronger all-rounder. If you mainly want the best raw gaming performance per dollar and don’t lean on those extras, AMD’s current lineup is very hard to argue with — particularly at the mid-range and below.

What We’d Actually Recommend by Budget

Entry level: RX 9060 XT (16GB) or RTX 5060 — both handle 1080p, and increasingly 1440p, comfortably for current games.

Mid-range: RTX 5070 or RX 9070 (non-XT) — the sweet spot for most gamers building or upgrading this year.

High end: RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT — genuinely strong 1440p and entry-level 4K performance without flagship pricing.

No budget ceiling: RTX 5090, if you actually need it — 4K, high refresh rate, or professional workloads where the extra VRAM and horsepower earn their keep.
