Data Recovery Lithgow — Honest Advice Before You Commit

Losing access to important files is stressful — and the first thing most people want to know is whether their data can be recovered. At Lithgeek in Lithgow, we offer software-based data recovery for a wide range of common situations. We’ll always assess your drive first and give you an honest answer about what’s possible before you commit to anything.

What Kind of Data Recovery Can We Help With?

We handle data recovery where the problem is logical rather than physical — meaning the drive hardware is intact but the data has become inaccessible due to software, file system, or human error. This includes:

  • Accidentally deleted files (including emptied Recycle Bin)
  • Accidentally formatted drives or USB sticks
  • Corrupted file system or partition table
  • Drive not showing up in Windows or macOS
  • Files lost after a failed Windows update or OS reinstall
  • Recovery from crashed or unbootable computers
  • Recovering photos, documents, or videos from SD cards and USB drives

What We Can’t Recover (And Why We’ll Tell You Upfront)

We want to be straight with you: some data recovery situations require specialist hardware and cleanroom facilities that go beyond what we can do in-store. If your drive has been physically damaged — dropped hard, making grinding or clicking noises, exposed to water or fire, or has a burnt PCB — the chances of software-based recovery are low, and attempting it without the right tools can sometimes make things worse.

If we assess your drive and determine it needs hardware-level recovery, we’ll tell you straight away and point you toward reputable specialists who have the equipment to help. We’d rather give you the right advice than take your money on a job we can’t complete.

Warning Signs Your Drive May Be Physically Damaged

  • Clicking, grinding, or beeping sounds from the drive — stop using it immediately
  • Drive was dropped or knocked while running
  • Device was exposed to liquid — do not try to turn it on
  • Drive feels unusually hot or smells burnt

In these cases, bring the device in but do not keep trying to access it — repeated attempts on a physically failing drive reduce the chances of any successful recovery.

Know Before You Commit

Before any recovery work starts, we’ll look at the drive, tell you what we think the problem is, what we can attempt in-store, and whether we think you need a hardware specialist. You get an honest answer so you can make an informed decision.

The Best Data Recovery Is the One You Never Need

If you don’t currently have a backup system in place, we can set one up for you after any recovery job — whether that’s an external hard drive with automatic backups or a cloud-based solution. It’s one of the most valuable things you can do for peace of mind, and it costs very little to do right.
