There are times when you really need some help, but having your computer or phone fixed isn’t exactly what you need. Sometimes you just need someone to look at it for a few minutes, point you in the right direction, and send you on your way.
That’s why we built the Monkey Bar Help Desk at Lithgeek. It’s quick, no-commitment tech help for your computer, phone, or smart device — no drive to Sydney required. You don’t need an appointment to get help, but it does make things faster.
Here are a few examples of what we handle at the Monkey Bar.
Android Phones With Popup Ads
This is what happens when a bit of software on your Samsung or Android phone decides it can make more money by forcing you to watch its ads all day. The real problem is that a lot of these ads try to trick you into thinking your phone has a virus, or that your PDF reader urgently needs updating.
We see this constantly, and most of the time we can clear it up in under 30 minutes. The trouble is that a lot of phone repair kiosks don’t actually understand the software behind it — so their answer is to just wipe the phone. That takes all day and typically costs $100–$170.
At the Monkey Bar, we see this issue all the time and can often fix it in under 15 minutes. That means most people walk away having spent less than $30 — and often Kevin can knock it out for less than $20.

Quick How-Tos
Not every problem with a computer is a software or hardware issue. Sometimes the real “problem” is just that you need a bit of help understanding how to use the thing. That’s exactly where the Monkey Bar comes in handy — a short “how to” session can solve your problem on the spot.
It’s not a replacement for one-on-one personal training or one of our group classes, but for a quick question, it’s often all you need.
Software Updates
Ever had an issue with your phone or computer, only to find out the whole thing would’ve been solved by a software update? We can help with that too. And here’s the good part — while the update is downloading, we stop the timer.
As long as we don’t need to check the device in for a full repair, the standard Monkey Bar rate applies (more on that below).
How Monkey Bar Billing Works
It’s simple: we run a timer, and that timer shows exactly what the current bill is. The rate is $60 an hour, billed in six-minute increments, with a $10 minimum.
What If the Device Actually Needs a Repair?
Most people don’t bring something into the Monkey Bar if they already know it needs a proper repair — but if we get into it and discover a repair is needed after all, we waive the Monkey Bar fees entirely. From there, our normal repair labour rate of $150 an hour applies, along with the cost of any parts.
Stop By or Book Ahead
You’re welcome to just walk in — no appointment needed. But if you’d like to line up a time, you can book a Monkey Bar appointment here.
